CCTV Security Cameras

When it comes to CCTV security cameras, there are two main types available: IP cameras and Analogue HD cameras (TVI, CVI, AHD, CVBS). While IP cameras are often preferred for their ease of installation and suitability for commercial settings, it’s essential to remember that Analogue HD cameras remain a viable choice, especially for home security. In fact, approximately 20% of our service calls involve Analogue HD systems, primarily because they are known for their reliability.

Here’s a brief overview of the key distinctions: IP cameras use Cat5/6 cables and operate on a network system, which means troubleshooting an IP camera system may require some networking expertise. On the other hand, Analogue HD CCTV security cameras use coaxial cables, and most issues can be resolved with a simple restart or power supply replacement.

If you’re looking to upgrade an existing security camera system that uses coaxial or DIY cables, consider a TVI system, which can be a straightforward plug-and-play solution for a hassle-free transition.

Regardless of your choice of security system, ensuring proper installation is paramount. Many of the projects we take over from competitors involve cable-related problems. It’s crucial to use high-quality Cat5/6 cables to guarantee the longevity of your system, ensuring it lasts for years, not just months.

Resolution

There are various resolution options to choose from, with higher resolutions offering better image quality. However, higher resolutions can consume storage space quickly. If this is an issue, consider reducing the frame rate to 12fps and configuring the recorder to use H.265 compression. Keep in mind that lower resolutions provide smoother remote viewing experiences.

Motion Detection

All security systems include motion detection as a standard feature. Motion detection works by comparing frames and identifying a percentage change. When the criteria are met, the system records, otherwise, it doesn’t. However, this can lead to missed events when the target is too far away or at the edge of the screen. To address this, we configure our systems to use continuous recording alongside motion detection to highlight specific areas, ensuring nothing is overlooked.

Night Vision

Every one of our CCTV systems features night vision capabilities, with the effective distance specified in each product’s specifications. For more information on night vision, you can refer to our blog article on the topic.

Remote View

All our security cameras and recorders support remote viewing through the required app. You can log in to watch live feeds and playback recordings from your mobile device.

Push Notifications

While some IP cameras offer direct push notifications, most often, this function is managed by the recorder. It’s important to note that the reliability of push notifications can vary, depending on your phone and telecommunications provider.

Audio

Many CCTV security cameras come equipped with audio. There are two types available: those with a built-in microphone and those with IO ports that allow you to attach high-sensitivity external microphones. While built-in microphones are easier to set up, IO-enabled cameras offer superior audio quality, though they may come at a higher cost.

Two-Way Talk

Some cameras support two-way talk, allowing you to both listen and speak remotely. For optimal performance, we recommend choosing cameras with Audio IO (In/Out) and connecting an external microphone and speaker, which provides greater clarity and the option to amplify the sound.

Wide Angle Lens

Most of our security cameras are equipped with a 2.8mm lens, offering a wide image. If you need a narrower view, you can opt for 3.6mm or 6mm lenses to suit your specific needs.

Power Requirements

All our cameras operate on 12V DC, and our IP camera range includes PoE (Power over Ethernet) options, allowing cameras to draw power through a single network cable. If your NVR doesn’t support PoE, you can incorporate a PoE switch or injector.

Warranty

Our standard warranty for Security Cameras and Recorders is one year from the date of purchase. For specific warranty details on a particular device, please refer to the information tab or contact us directly.
